Crop that Top

The 80s have indeed found a way to creep into the spring season! Every once and a while we come across a trend that inspires us to step out of our comfort zone and take a walk on the wild side, and today's daring outfit idea is a perfect example of that- crop tops! They, I must say tread the line between a fashion crime and being fashionable.

The style on the spring 2011 runways were many and various, there were bare midriffs aplenty on the S/S 11 runways, from teeny, tiny tops to the smallest hints of skin. It’s about showing off the midriff in a sophisticated and stylistic way. Spring 2011 will push the trend forward and further into the mainstream ( if not masses ). As a 2011 fashion trend, the crop top is not just all about exposing one’s whole stomach but about finding elegant new ways of showing a peep of toned midriff. Yes, that’s the crop top of the grunge-revival. Yes, that’s the crop top of the sportswear-as-daywear-trend. However there’s also the crop top as a sleek, refined piece that some will embrace as a look not to be feared. The thought of bare bellies can be frightening, but a midriff-revealing ensemble can translate into a sophisticated and chic evening look! You don't have to expose your entire stomach to pull off this sultry clothing trend—it's all about showing just a hint of skin. (A peek-a-boo moment, if you will.) It's enough to turn heads and make a statement, without being overly revealing, which is why we're bringing it to your attention.

Crop tops did not make a sudden comeback or perhaps the trend of innerwear as outerwear helped in the popularity of crop tops among stylistas. Although the crop top hasn’t made much of a fashion appearance since the era of keep-fit chic, it is back and has had a much needed makeover. Gone are the gaudy colours and clingy materials and in are chic, flattering, simplistic styles that ooze laidback glamour. Teamed with high-waisted shorts or casual slacks, the crop top meant just a hint of flesh, ensuring and maintaining the class and just a little bit provocative. Happy crop-wearing, ladies!
