In these trying times, we always have our eyes peeled, searching for sartorial solutions that will solve our wardrobe needs efficiently and effectively. Though we've occasionally wandered off the map in our adventures, these explorations have also introduced (or reintroduced) us to a directional item that is the epitome of easy dressing: the jumpsuit. Proving that fashion always comes full circle, this new iteration of the playsuit is not just for kids anymore. It was only a few short years ago that cutesy playsuits and rompers were a summer must-have (albeit a short lived one).
Well, as fashion would dictate it, one-piece anything’s are back in style. >From overalls to jumpsuits, to playsuits and rompers, these one piece cuts are an option for fashionistas looking for pieces for their spring 2011 wardrobe. And for those who are, they can rest assured knowing that any investment pieces, particularly statement playsuits, will be a worthy investment with the one piece styles on the cards as sitting amongst spring 2011 fashion trends. Let’s face it..The jumpsuit is probably one fashion garment which was not in your wardrobe last year, it was reinterpreted to fuse in many of the season's other fashion trends, so credit crunch or not, it may make sense to buy at least one version to suit your shape. Following this massive seal of approval, there is now a wide array of playsuits and jumpsuits available on the high street but each and every one takes its inspiration, shape, colour or print from the vintage fashion of the past.
Anything goes when it comes to length. At their shortest, we saw playsuits and rompers that were almost as tiny as hot pants (in a way blurring the lines between playsuits and bodysuits). At their longest they reached the ankles as full jumpsuits, and in between were knee length and mid-calf versions like those seen on the runways. This fabulous new trend started when top designers such as Alexander McQueen showed jumpsuits on the world’s finest catwalks. The result took the jumpsuit into the realm of exotic, sexy and stylish evening wear. However the all-in-one is certainly no new invention, we have seen this shape in key fashion going back to 1950's swimwear and most of us think of the eighties when we see jumpsuits but the birth of the jumpsuit was actually in the late sixties!
Unlike its more casual cousin (overalls), rompers and jumpsuits create a look that is sophisticated, unfussy and perfectly pulled together in one fell swoop. They're also incredibly versatile, outfitting everyone from kids in sandboxes to mechanics on the job. The good news about this vast spectrum and crazy adaptability is that you can achieve any desired result, depending on how you choose to style it. Whether you opt for an all-in-one that is long or short, it is important to pay attention to the fabric and fit. A luxurious material or eye-catching pattern can compliment this voluminous silhouette and create a feminine look. Remember that accessorizing will always help you achieve a polished ensemble; a strong heel and statement necklace will no doubt bring this shape to new stylish heights.
